2008 will be a banner year for Joshua House! Expanding services to teen girls with mentoring programs will only make Joshua House shine brighter as Tampa’s most successful program serving children who have been abused, abandoned, and neglected. The staff have responded to this challenging new service with their usual professionalism and passion, designing a program that not only meets the needs of these girls, but exceeds it.

Our dear friend and co-founder of Joshua House, Bob Thomas, a man known for his wealth, faith, and philanthropy, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2007. He was 83. The late Bob Thomas was part of the team of community leaders that dreamed of and founded Joshua House, a shelter for abused and abandoned children in Hillsborough County. Thomas was known for his munificence. A devout man with a sharp business mind and equally sharp wit, he spent his retirement dedicated to church-related and charitable causes. Actually, he spent his working years dedicated to the same. Bob Thomas is sorely missed by all of us at the Friends of Joshua House Foundation, but his co-founders, Dottie Berger MacKinnon, Olin Mott and Greg Johnson feel his absence the most. We extend our deepest sympathies to the entire Thomas family and to the Tampa Bay community. Truly, one of the best has been received by the Lord.

These are bittersweet milestones to say the least. Yet, even though children continue to be mistreated and abused, this community continues to support them through its love and generosity. The Board of Directors of the Friends of Joshua House Foundation extends our most heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of our donors, volunteers and the entire Tampa Bay community. Without your support, Joshua House would not have been capable of profoundly improving the quality of life for over 1000 abused, abandoned and neglected children.
